General Questions​

What is the Datora Bulk Gift Cards app?​

The Datora Bulk Gift Cards app is a Shopify app that lets you create and manage gift cards in bulk. Instead of creating gift cards one by one in the Shopify admin, you can generate hundreds or thousands of gift cards in a single job with custom code formats, values, and expiration dates.

How does the app work?​

  1. You create a job specifying how many gift cards you want, their value, code format, and other options
  2. The app processes the job in the background, creating each gift card through the Shopify API
  3. Once complete, you can download the gift card codes as a CSV file or have them delivered via email
  4. All created gift cards appear in your Shopify admin under Products > Gift cards

Do I need coding knowledge to use this app?​

No, the app is designed to be user-friendly with an intuitive interface. No coding knowledge is required.

Creating Gift Cards​

How do I create gift cards?​

  1. Open the Datora Bulk Gift Cards app
  2. Click Create Job
  3. Set the number of gift cards, value, code format, and other options
  4. Click Create to start the job
  5. Monitor progress from the dashboard

What code formats are available?​

You can customize gift card codes with:

  • Prefix: Add characters at the beginning of each code (e.g., "GIFT-")
  • Postfix: Add characters at the end of each code
  • Code length: Choose between 8 and 20 characters for the random portion of the code
  • Separator: Choose a character to separate the prefix/postfix from the code

What is a prefix and postfix?​

A prefix is text added before the random code portion. A postfix is text added after it.

For example, with prefix "HOLIDAY" and postfix "2026":

  • Generated code: HOLIDAY-A3K9M2P1-2026

This helps you identify and organize gift cards by campaign, season, or purpose.

What code lengths are available?​

The random portion of the gift card code can be between 8 and 20 characters long. Longer codes provide more uniqueness and security, while shorter codes are easier for customers to enter manually.

Can I set expiration dates on gift cards?​

Yes, you can set an expiration date when creating a job. All gift cards in that job will share the same expiration date. If no expiration date is set, the gift cards will not expire.

Note: Gift card expiration laws vary by region. Check your local regulations before setting expiration dates.

Can I change my plan later?​

Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately, while downgrades take effect at your next billing cycle.

Are there any hidden fees?​

No, there are no setup fees, hidden charges, or overage fees. You pay only your monthly subscription through Shopify.

Downloading Gift Cards​

How do I download gift card codes?​

After a job completes, you can download the codes as a CSV file:

  1. Go to the job detail page
  2. Click Download CSV

You can also select multiple completed jobs from the dashboard and click Download to get all selected jobs in a single CSV file.

What format is the download?​

Gift card codes are downloaded as a CSV file containing the gift card codes and their details. You can open this file in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet application.

How long are downloads available?​

Download availability depends on your plan:

  • Free: 1 day after job completion
  • Basic: Unlimited
  • Premium: 1 month after job completion
  • Ultimate: Unlimited

After the download window expires, the CSV file is no longer available. Gift cards remain active in your Shopify admin regardless of download availability.

Code Formatter​

What is the code formatter?​

The code formatter (Basic plan and above) lets you customize how gift card codes look. You can configure prefixes, postfixes, separators, and code lengths to match your branding or organizational needs.

How do I use the code formatter?​

When creating a job, the formatter options appear in the job creation form. Set your prefix, postfix, separator, and code length preferences before submitting the job.

Job Presets​

What are job presets?​

Job presets (Premium plan and above) let you save frequently used job configurations. Instead of re-entering the same settings each time, you can load a preset to pre-fill the job creation form.

How do I create a preset?​

  1. Configure your job settings as desired
  2. Click Save as Preset
  3. Give the preset a name
  4. The preset is now available for future jobs

How do I use a preset?​

  1. Click Create Job
  2. Select a preset from the preset dropdown
  3. The form is pre-filled with the saved settings
  4. Adjust any settings if needed
  5. Click Create to start the job

Email Delivery​

Can I send gift cards via email?​

Yes, with the Basic plan and above, you can configure email delivery when creating a job. Gift card codes are sent directly to the recipients you specify.

How does email delivery work?​

When creating a job with email delivery enabled, you provide recipient email addresses. After the gift cards are created, the app sends each recipient an email containing their gift card code and details.

Job Duplication​

What is job duplication?​

Job duplication (Basic plan and above) lets you create a new job based on the settings of a previous job. This saves time when you need to create similar batches of gift cards.

How do I duplicate a job?​

  1. Go to the job you want to duplicate
  2. Click Duplicate
  3. The job creation form opens with the same settings pre-filled
  4. Adjust any settings as needed
  5. Click Create to start the new job

Job Processing​

How are jobs processed?​

Jobs are processed sequentially per shop. This means only one job runs at a time for your store. If you submit multiple jobs, they are queued and processed in the order they were created.

What does "concurrent jobs" mean in the plan limits?​

The concurrent jobs limit refers to how many jobs can be queued at the same time. For example, on the Premium plan with 3 concurrent jobs, you can have up to 3 jobs queued or in progress simultaneously. Additional jobs cannot be created until one of the existing jobs completes.

Important: Even with multiple concurrent jobs allowed, jobs still process one at a time. The concurrency limit controls how many jobs can be waiting in the queue.

Why is my job stuck in "queued" status?​

Your job is waiting for a previous job to finish processing. Jobs run one at a time per shop. Once the current job completes, your queued job will start automatically.

Monthly Quota​

How does the monthly quota work?​

Your plan includes a monthly quota that limits the total number of gift cards you can create per billing cycle. The quota resets at the start of each billing period.

What counts toward the quota?​

All gift cards created through the app count toward your monthly quota, regardless of whether they are later deactivated, expire, or are redeemed.

What happens when I reach my quota?​

You cannot create new jobs that would exceed your remaining quota. You can wait for the quota to reset at your next billing cycle or upgrade to a higher plan.

Does deactivating gift cards free up quota?​

No. Deactivating gift cards does not free up your monthly quota. Once a gift card is created, it counts toward the quota permanently for that billing cycle.

Auto-Deactivation​

What is auto-deactivation?​

Auto-deactivation (Premium plan and above) is a setting that automatically deactivates unredeemed gift cards after a specified number of days. This is useful for expiring promotional gift cards that were never used.

Which gift cards get auto-deactivated?​

Only gift cards with their full balance remaining are auto-deactivated. If a gift card has been partially redeemed, it will not be auto-deactivated.

Can I undo a deactivation?​

No. Deactivation is permanent and cannot be undone. Once a gift card is deactivated, it cannot be reactivated. Make sure you understand this before enabling auto-deactivation.
